June 23, 2016 to May 28, 2017
This exhibition celebrates the artistic accomplishments of the young people who participated this past year (2015/16) in the very successful Autism Arts Saturday art classes at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Autism Nova Scotia have worked in partnership since 2006 with the support of the Craig Foundation to provide a range of visual art experiences for children and youth on the autism spectrum. For the past four years, with further funding support from The Windsor Foundation, this partnership has been expanded to support the program in Halifax and also offer Autism Arts at our location in Yarmouth.
Autism Arts is a recreational art program. Its intention is to provide a safe and supportive environment for participants to express themselves creatively. Artist Agne Kubiliute facilitates each studio workshop with the Autism Support Coordinator Emily Rowell from Autism Nova Scotia to ensure a high-quality and appropriately modified arts experience. The artworks in this exhibition reflect a range of ideas, thoughts, emotions, and experimentation with materials and art processes.
