This exhibition celebrates the artistic accomplishments of the young people who participated this past year in the very successful Autism Arts Saturday art classes at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Autism Nova Scotia have worked in partnership since 2006 with the support of the Craig Foundation to provide a range of visual art experiences for children and youth on the autism spectrum. With additional support the past three years from The Windsor Foundation, this partnership has been expanded to further support the program in Halifax and also offer Autism Arts at our location in Yarmouth.
Autism Arts is a recreational art program. Its intention is to provide a safe and supportive environment for participants to express themselves creatively. Artist Agne Kubiliute worked in collaboration with the Autism Support Coordinator Jamie Lynn Hill from Autism Nova Scotia to facilitate the program.
The projects presented in this exhibition were designed by the artist to invite experimentation with a variety of artistic processes and materials. The nature of each project encouraged class participants to express and communicate their individual thoughts, ideas and themes with each other while taking into consideration the technical elements of making art.
