Exhibition Launch and Solidarity Forum: Sept. 27, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
This new exhibition gives a unprecedented platform to over 60 young Nova Scotian artists, aged 15 to 30, to share their unique perspective on issues pertaining to justice in Canada, including the rehabilitation of inmates, crime prevention, Indian Residential Schools, gender-based violence, and discrimination. Their artwork was selected through a rigorous competition process, which saw youth from across Nova Scotia submit proposals on the theme justice, art and youth.
A jury selected the following eight submissions:
- Aidan Cromwell. Focus: rehabilitation, the realities of incarceration, the effect of imprisonment on African Nova Scotian youth, separation of prisoners from society, and creating a voice for societal change.
- Charli LeBlanc. Focus: the experience of and justice for victims of sexual abuse.
- Dylan Fish. Focus: the role social media can play in raising awareness about justice
- Rose Orlando. Focus: bullying, cyber-bullying, drug abuse, depression and victims of sexual violence.
- Sarisha Polder. Focus: justice in the education system.
- Savannah Simon. Her piece “Heart Nova Scotia” is a collaboration with the students of J.L. Ilsley High School. Focus: healing and reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginals, the Indian Residential School experience, and the future.
- Tyler Hydeand Johnny Cann. Focus: societal perceptions of masculinity and femininity.
- Tyquil Morton and Alexi Rodriguez with mentorship. Focus: “In My Own Voice”—the experiences of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated youth.

SPECIAL EVENT ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 24
Youth Art Connection, a collaborative community partner for this exhibition, is hosting an event on January 24, from 1-3pm, in the 4th Wall exhibition space. Please join us for a short presentation and public dialogue, with an intergenerational panel of professional writers, poets and hip hop artists. They are using the power of the written and spoken word to address justice-related issues in Nova Scotia and tell stories that too often go unheard.

When: Saturday January 24th, 1-3pm
Who: All are welcome to view the exhibition, and listen and engage with the panelists.
Panelists will include Rebecca Thomas (spoken word artist), Chris Benjamin (author), Shevy Price (hip hop artist), Jon Tattrie (author), Rebecca Moore (artist and public speaker), and Savvy Simon (public speaker, activist, entrepreneur).
