Autism Arts
Developed in 2006, in collaboration with Autism Nova Scotia, Autism Arts is a weekly art class for children and youth, ages 6 through early adulthood.
Classes are designed to create opportunities for those on the autism spectrum by presenting a variety of meaningful and positive experiences through art. Art can be an effective and inspiring tool for self-expression, especially for those with unique needs. Autism Arts provides respectful and appropriately designed learning and environmental modifications to ensure enjoyment and fulfillment.
Autism Arts is available in both the Halifax and Yarmouth locations. Classes take place in the Gallery studios on Saturdays and are 60 minutes in duration. Each session is led by a well-qualified and experienced artist/art educator and an occupational/recreational or behaviour therapist, who work together with volunteers to provide a fun, safe, and creative learning environment.
Each year, Autism Arts presents an annual exhibition of the artworks created by participants. Each piece is professionally framed, installed and exhibited in both Gallery locations.
