2 WHEELERS

Curator: Dale Sheppard

2 Wheelers is an exhibition about bikes opening during HRM Bike Week and closing in September. It brings together works by artists of all ages and practices that explore the playful, functional and political role of the bicycle. The exhibition is designed to take you through four spaces of the Gallery.

Start your bike adventure at the Education Gallery, with a stopover at Gallery North’s oval table, up to the Corridor Gallery, and across to the Studio Hallway Gallery.

  • Education Gallery: See bike-inspired art work from the Gallery’s Permanent Collection, including three photographs by Annie Leibovitz that will be on display for the first time in Nova Scotia.
  • Gallery North, oval table: The Wheel Deal, a hands-on activity to create your own bike art. Also view The Bike Cardigan, a collaborative artwork made from a recycled bike and yarn, on loan from The Deanery Project.
  • Corridor Gallery: Discover the large-scale collaborative ArtsSmarts art project Freedom, which explores the history of cycling. It was created by ArtsSmarts artist Stephanie Dean-Moore and 150 Grade 2 and Grade 5 students from Elmsdale Elementary School.
  • Studio Hallway Gallery: Explore Be a Cog in the Wheel of Change, a community-based installation created by GPI Atlantic’s Youth Ride! program. This installation was created from stained glass and recycled bike parts and was supported by the 4Cs Foundation and Nova Scotia Department of Energy.

2 Wheelers is an exhibition for all ages. Come along for the ride this summer!
