Comprised primarily of never before exhibited pieces from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s contemporary collection, Framed presents works of various media created between 1972 and 2008.
Featured artists in this exhibition are Canadians Allyson Clay, Cora Cluett, and David Askevold—one of the most important conceptual artists to have practiced in this country—as well as American Alison Rossiter. All have history with the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (now NSCAD University).
The art works on view are formally linked through the use of a common object—a window—as stage, site, and subject. Ranging from photography, video, and watercolour, the window, as an architectural element, is a conceptual device framing each artists’ imagery and content.
