GARRY NEILL KENNEDY

image description

Tracing the history of Garry Neill Kennedy’s floor to ceiling text works, this exhibition coincides with the launch of Garry Neill Kennedy: Superstar Shadow 1984-2005, a major monograph focusing on Kennedy’s work co-published by Museum London, together with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

These installations are intellectually inspired works that respond to the conditions of site, and employ colour, form and line to examine how power is expressed in culture (in the shape of Superstar Shadow, a font developed by Esselte-Letraset foundry).

To accompany the book Kennedy has created a new painting installation, The Colours of Citizen Arar, which Garry Neill Kennedy considers an extension of the series featured in the book.

The exhibition also includes printed matter from previous Superstar Shadow exhibitions, along with several preparatory drawings for earlier works, including the one made for The Colours of Citizen Arar.
