HURTUBISE

A major retrospective of key works from the artist’s 50-plus year career, this exhibition showcases Jacques Hurtubise’s career highlights and celebrates his newest map-based work. Hurtubise is best known as a Québec abstract painter from the generation following that of the plasticiens. His hard-edged abstraction and bright, geometric patterning have often linked him to his peers Claude Tousignant, Guido Molinari, and Yves Gaucher. Hurtubise’s most recent works demonstrate his keen attention to and grasp of the contemporary art scene, bringing his mastery over the medium to the fore. Featuring over 60 paintings and prints, the exhibition provides an unparalleled overview of this key figure in abstract art’s history and offers the viewer a fresh look at the definition of abstraction.
