PERFECTLY BRIGHT AT ROSS FARM

Location: Ross Farm Museum
March 2 – May 27, 2018

The ArtReach exhibition Perfectly Bright at Ross Farm presents photographs taken last fall at Ross Farm Museum by grade 5 students from New Ross Consolidated School and Bridgewater Elementary School.

The students visited Ross Farm Museum and, under the guidance of artist François Gaudet, used digital cameras to capture scenes throughout this living, working, farm museum depicting 150 years of agriculture in Nova Scotia. They learned about the methods employed in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s photography exhibition, Perfect Brightness: Discovery and Escape in Contemporary Photography and “straight” photography, or practices that attempt to depict a scene or subject in sharp focus and detail, commensurate with the qualities that distinguish photography as a discipline from other visual media.

This exhibition is a small selection of the more than 500 photos taken by the students as they chronicled their journey around the Farm and the way life was there in the late 1800s.

ArtReach is an educational partnership between the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Department of Education. This initiative is designed to extend and enrich Gallery programs throughout the province by offering workshops for teachers and students, and school curriculum links and resources online.
