In Corpus, 2011, a series of lithographs, and his video Devil’s Noise, 2011, New York-based artist Brendan Fernandes addresses post-colonialism and questions of identity in globalized cultures.
Born in 1979 in Kenya, Brendan Fernandes immigrated to Canada in the 1990s. He received his BFA in Visual Arts from York University (2002), MFA in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario (2005), and completed the Independent Study Program at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2007).
These works were brought into the Permanent Collection as a result of Fernandes’ participation in the Sobey Art Award as a finalist (Ontario) in 2010.
